In the eight installment of our Reduction Time-to-Trial Task Force we developed strategies through analyzing data from different states in Mexico regarding the use of pre-trial detention in order to identify unnecessary procedural delays. The main objective of this Task Force is to ensure that youth are held in pre-trial detention for the shortest possible time and only under exceptional circumstances, as indicated by law.
This is a joint effort between the Juvenile Justice System and JJAI. Magistrates, Judges, Defenders, and Prosecutors from Durango, Chihuahua, Chiapas and Campeche met with our team to discuss how every child in conflict with the law can receive respectful treatment.
Positive results are consistently found during these meetings and more states have conveyed their interest participating in this Task Force in the near future.
